Botox

Reduces fine lines and wrinkles caused by facial expressions.

The wrinkle-smoothing injectable consistently tops lists of the most popular ways to stall, slow down and temporarily ease the visible effects of aging on your appearance.

What causes face wrinkles?

Some facial wrinkles form when we use our muscles to make expressions. For example, when we smile, the fine lines around our eyes (“crow’s feet”) are noticeable, and when we frown or scowl, the vertical lines between our eyebrows become prominent. The wrinkles formed during facial expressions are called dynamic wrinkles.

When we are young, our skin springs back to normal after facial expression and the dynamic lines disappear. But as we get older, and our muscles perform the same actions over and over again, the lines become ingrained in our skin. Eventually, we can see them even when our face is relaxed. These are static wrinkles — lines and folds that are visible at rest.

This aging process occurs because natural substances such as collagen (a major structural protein of the skin), elastin (a protein that allows tissue to stretch) and hyaluronic acid (which gives skin hydration and volume) decrease with age. This, together with environmental influences such as sun exposure, smoking and stress, all contribute to the formation of wrinkles.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is an injectable compound containing botulinum toxin type A, a purified neurotoxic protein that comes from a bacterium. Injectable neurotoxins target the nerves that control muscle movement and “mute” them. When treated with Botox®, the nerves cannot produce signals that trigger muscle contractions. This relaxes the overactive muscles responsible for dynamic wrinkles, resulting in less pronounced lines and a smoother, more youthful complexion.

Where Botox® can be used

Botox® can be used in many different ways to smooth wrinkles and promote a youthful, lifted appearance. Areas in the upper face are most likely to develop dynamic lines, including crow’s feet, forehead lines, vertical glabellar lines between the eyebrows and bunny lines on the sides of the nose bridge.

How Botox® works

A first-time consultation is essential. During your consultation, your physician will examine your face closely and ask you to make expressions. They will also make inquiries about your medical history and the treatment goals you hope to achieve. The injections can begin once your provider confirms you are a suitable candidate for Botox®.

Receiving a treatment with Botox® at Art in Beauty takes only a few minutes and doesn’t require anesthesia. Your physician will clean the treatment area, then inject Botox® with a fine needle into specific muscles. There is only minor discomfort during the injections, making Botox® one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available.
